Al really wasn't sure what to make of the fare that they had here. On one hand, there was always plenty of food. They didn't feast like back home, or have several course meals, or anything like that, but there was always plenty provided, always a lot to eat, and for someone like Al, who enjoyed eating? It was great! No complaints there, none at all! She did miss the food from home, though - it was why she baked so much, here, why she cooked and wrangled her way into the kitchens and learned how to use open fires and just made food. It was great, and perfect, and she couldn't fathom why she wouldn't want to make it? Her sister and the Sir seemed to appreciate it, and the girl had of course decided that food was the best way to make friends, here. Why wouldn't it be? Thus, as she settled down with her meat and bread and cheese and other assorted things that she really had to dig through to figure out what they were because oops foreign food, Al plopped down a box on the table, opening it to reveal the fly cakes she had made, propping a piece of paper with writing beside them. It said, in carefully written Norse, 'Take One if You Would Like'. She had the Sir write it up for her, he was much better at it than she was. Now, time to get down to munching on her meat! Which you ate with no hands. Life was amazing, wow.

He didn't want to go to the dinning hall. People were there. It was hard to find a place to hide. And his father said he would take away Kanashi if he didn't go. Great. Volund was carrying the stupid, chubby Terror like he always did, to protect him from himself and running into any giant, scary dragons. The dinning hall was surprisingly not that crowded, a few sleeping dragons all over the place but not bad. Right? Right. Not many living things was good. It meant Volund had to be slightly less careful than usual. He loosened his grip on Kanashi the Terror, petting the white scales of the small dragon while he tried to see where there was food. Amazing that the nearly blind Terror in his arms recognized food before he did. Then again, dragons had a really good sense of smell. The chubby Terror scratched his way out of Volund's arms and darted for the food, about to run into the wall since he was way off. Volund darted after him, jumping over a table to catch the Terror, falling onto another table rather hard. He grunted and stood up, holding the struggling dragon. It was like watching a two year old child in a candy store. He looked to the side, and froze. Oh, hello person, who are you? I don't know you. Volund stood there before reading the sign, deciding not to be rude, he gingerly took one and broke off a corner for Kanashi. Did dragons even eat these things? He had no idea. Yeah, why was he given a dragon again?
He sat the chubby Terror down, letting him destroy the tiny corner of the food while he sat down to watch. Talking wasn't his thing but he didn't think he should be rude. At least, until Kanashi was done eating this.. cake thingy that looked rather good. He looked back at the girl then at her plate of food. Yeah, Volund didn't eat much, but now he was a little hungry. He gingerly took a small bite of the cake thing and chewed it. It was the most delicious thing he had ever tasted in his life. Hell, it was better than his father's cooking and even Nikulas's. He smiled at the girl, it was a timid smile but it was something, right? "Ah, thanks, this is really good." So he might be talking just a little over a whisper and might need to speak up but eh. He was a quiet person by nature. He hated to be a bother or to annoy others.

The other boy was in luck for today - one, Al currently had the biggest bite of meat in her mouth she was pretty sure she ever took (actually, that was a lie - Christmas Dinner two years ago, ah, what memories), and two, Harvey was off carrying messages to both her sister and the Sir (if she didn't have to SHE WASN'T BRINGING HIM PLACES HE GOT SO MAD ALL THE TIME LITTLE BOSS DRAGON DUDE). So he was probably the safest that he could be at any point. Thus, Al could do naught but watch, wide-eyed, as he came out of nowhere with his dragon, right on top of the table, boom, chewing her meat slowly, cheeks semi-bulging as she stared. He seemed just as awkward - not that Al felt awkward, she instead felt rather enthralled by the whole thing - not saying anything and instead focusing on the food that she had brought. Well, that was good, at least, that she brought it! Al chewed faster, attempting to get this food out of her mouth asap so that she could speak to him, and just about accomplished that when he took a bite. Swallowing her last bit, she gave him a bright, pleased smile, speaking up, definitely a bit louder than the other as she sounded out her words. " Yes? 'ank you! You can haff more! Are you to eat? Do you wish to sit wi' me?" Al reached out to pat the chair next to her, eyes hopeful. An eating partner would be very nice, yes, she would like that! And a friend? Yes! Perfect.

So nothing seemed too bad. He was... slightly comfortable in here. No place to really hide but that was alright, right? Yeah, yeah sure it was. Kanashi had calmed down though and stole a whole cake from the plate and scurried over to Volund as fast as he could to eat it. These things were delicious! And Volund had to agree. He smiled at the girl, recoiling at bit at her volume but found some sort of peace. So she wasn't mad at him? Or or wanted to yell at him or tackle him or something? He rather liked this. He tried to understand her and soon nodded, moving to sit in the chair by her, rather slowly and timidly, but hey, he was never one to ignore someone that was being nice to him. Or so he hoped. This was kindness, right? He didn't really have any food of his own, but he did finish the rather delicious cake, watching Kanashi give him a hopeful look for another. Volund patted the dragon's head shaking his head. "No, you'll get a tummy ache and be sick. I don't want that," he said, getting a pout, but Kanashi knew when Volund was serious. So he curled up in front of his human and got a nice petting session.
Idle chat was something Volund did not do often and did not care to do often, but he didn't want to be rude. And this girl sounded like she wasn't from around here, so did that mean he had to act different or? He was scared that he was going to say something stupid, he just couldn't let that happen. He shifted a bit in his chair and smiled. "Where are you from?" He asked, still talking rather softly, but that was an appropriate question, right? Maybe? He would have to ask someone about how to properly socialize one day.

Yes, he was going to sit with her~. Suddenly, lunch was that much better, and given that lunch was already pretty great in the first place, that was definitely awesome. She had plenty of food, people who enjoyed her cooking - it didn't matter how many times she was praised for it, Al got such a warm fuzzy feeling inside when she saw people enjoying them - and now she had a nice person and a nice dragon to sit with. Yes, thank goodness Harvey wasn't here - it would've allll went downhill from there, she was quite positive. " You can take for later, if you wish?" she spoke up in suggestion, unable to wipe her smile at the sheer enjoyment that the dragon was having. She understood what the boy was saying - that was true enough, and she had eaten too much at too many points to stop him from saying it - but there was no reason for them to go to waste! No, she made these for others, otherwise she'd eat them all and get fat, and she liked seeing others eat them, anyway, or knowing they enjoyed them, versus her eating them herself. No, that would work great! However, the other spoke up in question, and Al blinked for a moment, nonplussed, before she grinned at him. " Lubeck?" It was a question rather than a statement, unsure if he would know where that was. Probably not. " It is on mainland, small l- f-" The word puzzled her, before she gave up. " My fa-er is Lord there, ja? I am Honourable Alfonsine Unger, Maid of Lubeck, you can call me Al!" No need for all the formalities among fellow students, right? She was happy to be rid of them! " Where are you from? What is your name?" She queried, before taking another bite of her meat, smaller this time so it would be easier to chew. Also, finish quicker so she could reply, smart Al!

Kanashi ignored Volund, which was rare, and snagged another one, bringing it over to him before awkwardly parting it in the best half he could. He wasn't the smartest dragon, but he knew how to share and be nice. Volund rubbed the dragon's head, getting a happy purr and a small roar of content before Kanashi dug into the cake, eating it as fast as he could. Volund wish he could cook, or bake, or do anything with food. But he could probably burn water if he tried hard enough to make something edible. His brother was a good cook, sure, but didn't like trying to teach Volund how to do anything worthwhile. Then again, Volund was scared of setting the house on fire and accidentally poisoning someone so he kept away from the kitchens now days. Just as a safety precaution.
He was slowly feeling more comfortable near this girl. Not completely safe because open areas were horrifying, but more comfortable. He was relaxing a bit. Nothing seemed to attack him from behind or try to scare him, so that was a bonus and a way to get him to actually stop acting like a terrified sheep. He perked up when she answered his question. Ah, no, he had never heard of that place. Nikulas might have though. He read so much it might have popped up in one of his books, but probably not since he let Volund read them after him. "N-no, I've never heard of it. Sounds nice though." He didn't really pay attention to her being the daughter of a lord though. Titles didn't mean much to Volund. He was more about who you were, rather than who's blood you had. But it was still really cool, when he thought about it, to be talking to the daughter of a lord of some place. "I'm from the village, out of the academy," he replied. "And I'm Volund, many people call me Vol though, as a nickname. Nice to meet you, Al." Mainly his little brother and his father, and sometimes Nikulas, but it was what he was called. Better than other things.

Aww. His little dragon still had another, and Al watched the little fellow with rapt, adoring attention, wishing her own dragon was that well-behaved and cute. No, Harvey was not like that in the slightest, an angry little ball of terror, instead, but Al still loved him. Just. As long as he stopped biting, please. At least she hadn't bled yet? That was good. So far, so good. "It is nice, yes!" Al replied primly, easily, nodding. "Here is nice, too, yes? I like it. I... not go to village much, but." She was planning to, definitely, but she was a bit too preoccupied with ensuring that she actually understood her lessons, grasped what to do with dragons, all that stuff. That was more important that exploring the village - the only reason she had, so far, was to buy ingredients, and to talk to one of the Masters. However, Al was distracted from that line of thought, now considering her new friend's words. "You wish to call Volund or Vol? Which I call you? And it is nice to meet you, yes!" After all, he had just said some people called him that - did he want her to call him that? Was there some sort of rule that only some people could? Which would be better? She didn't know, never knew with these people, always best to be sure!

Oh, she didn't go to the village much? Volund loved the village, he knew all the best places to hide during carnivals and stuff, also when Hiorr wanted to be mean and bully him some. That was more rare now, though, he usually left Volund alone now and tried not to give him a heart attack. The fact still remained though, that the village was a lovely place to go visit and stay in. It was better than the school to Volund. He liked spending more time near home than he did at the school grounds. But he did have classes, of course. "I could take you to the village sometime, when we don't have class," he said, petting Kanashi's back gently. "I usually spend time there." It was an offer he didn't really felt used to giving, since he didn't offer to spend time with others that much, but he liked Al. She might be a little strange, but so was Volund, and she was rather nice. She wasn't poking fun at his nervousness at all.
"Ah, either or. You can call me Volund if you like, or Vol if you like that too," given Vol was mainly used by his family, he always thought it was worth mentioning. he didn't want to be used. he responded to both rather well Kanashi gave a loud burp before shaking his scales out, curling up on the table, purring while Volund pet his scales softly. Kanashi sure was a dull dragon, but he was super sweet and adorable. He always tried to do his best, but the fact that he didn't understand even basic commands made it hard for Volund to pass some of his classes. Of course, Kanashi did try. That was important. If only Volund tried for him in return.
