raphael audun- son twenty three male 6'1" & 144 lbs bisexual teacher- master tamers terrible terror keeper | General -He dyes his hair purple with a type of berry found out in the wilderness. It helps disguise his natural blonde hair (which he hates), and the Terrors seem fond of the scent. Which is wonderful, because it's a far better alternative than always having to smell like fish.-He has the slightest bit of a lisp, which he tries not to talk about, and is prone to stuttering when nervous, though it's improved greatly since his teenage years. -He's afraid of, well, many things, though the main ones include heights and wide open spaces. -His back is littered with small scars. He doesn't talk about it, and if anyone mentions it he'll find a way to get out of there as quickly as possible. -He manages the school's supply of Terrible Terrors, and thus all of the free starters that students get come from him. He's also the unofficial head of the Academy's communications, seeing as messenger Terrors just seem to flock to him. Unfortunate, since he's not exactly outspoken, but nothing that can really be helped. Dragons Blue Rose - Terrible Terror ♀Lady in Red - Terrible Terror ♀ Saggezza - Monstrous Nightmare ♂ Fell, Tyr, Hall, & Vern - Snaptrapper ♂ Terrible Terror flock- assorted, ♂ / ♀ Personality -Timid -Kind -Awkward -Simple -Push-over -Pacifist Though he's come into himself quite a bit since becoming one of the school's Master Tamers and then retiring to teach- at quite a young age, he might add- Raphael has always been a timid one. He's soft-spoken, uncomfortable around crowds and people he doesn't know, and though his appearance should stick out he really just, well, doesn't. He's got almost no presence, a knack for disappearing in plain sight- and not on purpose, either, though he doesn't particularly mind. He just tends to get passed over by most people. But, well, he's always been more comfortable around dragons than humans, and so it suits him just fine. Besides, the lack of presence that makes it difficult to interact with people means he's less threatening to the beasts he tames, and though he seems the type to go running scared from a furious dragon he does have a way with them. And, well, if you're expecting some hidden depth you'll be sorely disappointed. Raphael is a simple person, when it comes down to it. He doesn't care much for fashion or fame, even for riches, not really. He's perfectly content to live his life surrounded by the dragons he loves, and as long as he has something to eat and a roof over his head he'll get along just fine. Other than being one of the best at what he does, he isn't particularly special- or at least, he doesn't think he is. Humbleness, self-esteem issues- same thing, right? All he really wants is to help dragons and people get along. He doesn't care for fighting, at all, which is a little strange for a viking and keeper of giant fire-breathing beasts, but, well. That's why he's a tamer rather than a trainer. He doesn't care for those who are loud, arrogant, and enjoy fighting- trainers and Stokers come to mind- but even that is more out of concern for their dragons' health than any true hatred. Though he might pout or scold he doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He's still working on the whole teaching thing, seeing as he's more suited to assisting from the shadows than actually telling people what to do, but he's determined to work on it. It helps that he's in charge of an elite group that already knows what they're doing for the most part- in the Capture Academy he's more of a colleague and mentor than classroom instructor- but his role as the keeper in charge of Terrible Terrors means he's also going to be involved in beginning classes a lot more. Joy. History Raphael was born the younger of twins in a rather large trading village, to a Viking father and a foreign mother. Even as an infant, it was a struggle between his two cultures- his mother wanted her children to have names from her country, while his father of course wanted traditional Norse. He wound up half and half, keeping his father as his family name, and thus his split life began. When he was just a baby, however, his mother and his father had finally had it with each other. His mother encouraged art, craftsmanship, the life of a merchant- his father wanted a manly man for a son. They simply could not decide how to raise their children, and thus they split up, each of them taking one child, never to see each other again. Raphael became stuck with his father, and it was alright for a few years, at least until his father discovered that he didn't have a manly bone in his body. He couldn't fight, he didn't want to fight, he had manners, he was quiet, he was nice- he had this ridiculous girly blonde hair that his father absolutely despised. Needless to say he was a mama's boy, and growing up with the other kids in the village was... rough. His father had always been one of the vikings that believed in the old ways, that, even after all these years, did not get along with dragons. He had hoped that his son would learn to hate them, too, maybe even learn to slay them. When Raphael was still rather young- twelve? thirteen?- his father declared it was time for a rite of passage, stuck a sword in his hand, and threw him into one of the local dragon cages. Yup. The poor dragon was scared and in pain and so of course it attacked- and timid little Raphael dropped his sword but held his ground, and in a matter of minutes calmed the beast. Of course his mother didn't stand for this, and after one of his parents' biggest fights yet it was decided- it was off to Dragon Academy for their son. His sorting was... interesting, to say the least. They didn't have a house for cowards, after all. Eventually he wound up in Mystery House, just because that was where they put all of the strange ones, but though they hoped it would bring him out of his shell he only felt more out of place. They were all so close, such a team- and he was too shy to be a part of it. He did, however, fly through his classes. For his starter he selected not a Zippleback- they were scary- but a calm, older Nightmare, that could protect him and made him feel safe. He didn't enjoy all of his classes, of course- flying made his stomach churn, even on his trusted friend's back- but he passed through the ranks quickly enough, and eventually was accepted into the Capture Academy to become a Master Tamer. He was assigned to a squad- seeing as no one really wished to seek him out- and though in this stage of his life he did meet his lovely Snaptrapper, the field just wasn't for him. The one thing he did seem skilled in was dealing with his teammates' Terrors. They were little beasts of dragons, nowhere near as intelligent as regular dragons and thus that much more difficult to control. And yet, the soft-spoken tamer managed to wrangle them. He started picking up more and more on his travels, finding a clutch here, a pair there. Eventually he'd built up a pretty large flock- that were determined to follow him everywhere, clinging to him wherever he went. When the Capture Academy's head teacher had an... incident with an ornery Whispering Death just over a year ago, it was Raphael that they went to for help. They (forcibly) set up his retirement, naming him the official keeper of Terrible Terrors, and declared him the school's head tamer- possibly one of the most dangerous jobs out there, since every wild, dangerous beast was sent his way. He's lasted a year, though, which is more than anyone has expected of him- of course, it might just be a matter of time before he meets his match. |
